I havent updated the site in a while, so this update will probably be a cocktail of brief updates (akin to a majority of my updates)
July 28th - Popgun88.org's birthday. This flak cannon turned one year old.
July 28-30th - Black Sun Festival 2.0. To me, this weekend is greater than Christmas, my Birthday, and virtually any other annual event. Its at Toads Place, a concert hall located a block away from Yale University. Without saying, It's in New Haven, CT (the good part).
From the moment I arrived, I kept bumping into rivetheads I met at last years festival, so, from the first instant, I felt a great sense of comradery.
I got to the show just in time to see Informatik, a supurb band that meshes synth-pop with industrial. Das Ich followed them, they were filling in for And One, a german synthpop band. Ironically, Das Ich was supposed to headline last year, although, they were in a car-accident. So, although I love And One, I felt restitution.
Das Ich played an absolutely amazing set. Their set was lacking tracks from thier album Lava, they only played Fieber. They played several songs from a dated album, Egodram. They ended with an encore of Distillat, a legendary song. During thier set, a girl I wooed with my Deutsch visage, bought me a drink; a first.
The second night was just as good as the first, I caught Chemlab and Combichrist. Combichrist, a harsh electro-industrial-quasi power-noise duo from Norway/Germany, sent shockwaves of uncontrolled energy into the crowd.
After the show, Jared from Chemlab actually recognized me as the dude whom he let sing the chorus of the song 'Codeine Glue and You' at his show last year in Boston.
Now, at an industrial show, an enthusiast will invest alot of attention into thier image. I broke my own promise of wearing a Fallschirmjager uniform, and wore jeans (an act that would get me ostrocized). Now, the forecast foreshadowed torrential rainshowers during the weekend, so I brought along my umbrella. Since I drew the assumption that It could pour at any minute, I didnt leave it at the hotel room, and brought it everywhere I went, so there I was, at the show, holding an umbrella. It had utilitarian purposes, I'd clandestinely poke people midst conversations. Sadly for me, it was sunny all weekend (totally UN-goth!).
