This diorama is almost done, though I couldn't resist showing it off.

Story

This Sd. Kfz 173 "Jagdpanther" of Schwere-Panzer-Abteilung Feldherrnhalle of 60. Panzergrenadier-Division Feldherrnhalle is ordered into a overwatch role on the railways while the rest of the division prepares for a general withdrawal. Such a strategy was learned through being on the receiving end Soviet armoured train tactics. The Generalmajor came down from division to this precarious sector to personally inspect the soldiers, knowing full well that the enemy wouldn't risk getting the attention of the killer kwk43/88mm gun.

Construction

It is based around my Tamiya Jagdpanther. It was one of the very first models I ever bought. It was also the very first model I ever attempted to airbrush. As most models produced in 1969, it was pretty cruddy. I spent the better half of the winter converting and upgrading it. I scratch built the antenna, armor skirts, and zimmerit and purchased Dragon Magic tracks (the original was a pair of poorly made rubber one-piece tracks) and a couple Eduard photo-etch detail sets. It was a dramatic mutation. The original piece was wasting away on my window sill.

The soldiers and the kubelwagon need some more attention, the kube needs decal application and a couple washes; and the soldiers need further detailing, save the infantry Generalobesrt, who is finished.

The base is done except for rather mundane details: the tree needs more (realistic) leaves; and there should be more crap on the ground. The base was entirely scratchbuilt. I built the train-tracks with balsa wood, sand and sheet styrene. As usual, i used styrofoam to model the ground, followed by a coat of hydrocol. I airbrushed it in acrylics instead of enamals.
